Acosta Gets 1st MotoGP Win, Logano Steals Bristol Night Race Victory, and WRT BMW Tops Brickyard IMSA Race

MotoGP

Jorge Martín (Aprilia Racing) won Saturday’s Sprint after Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) crashed from a comfortable lead with three laps remaining. Marc Márquez (Ducati Lenovo) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) completed the Sprint podium.

Acosta rebounded Sunday to earn his first MotoGP Grand Prix victory, passing Martín and delivering KTM a home win. The race was his 56th start in motorcycle racing’s premier class, in his third season. The victory was Acosta’s first in MotoGP but the 17th of his world championship career, following six wins in Moto3 and 11 in Moto2, where he also secured the world title.  

Martín finished second, Bezzecchi third and Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP/Aprilia) fourth. Márquez placed fifth; Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini/Ducati) crashed out. Martín now leads Marc Márquez by 12 points.

NASCAR

Joey Logano (No. 22 Team Penske Ford) charged from fourth to first on Lap 494 and won Saturday’s Bass Pro Shop Night Race at Bristol, his third victory of 2026. Kyle Larson (No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet) finished second and took the championship lead by one point over Denny Hamlin (No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota), who placed eighth. Carson Hocevar (No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet) was third, Christopher Bell (No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota) fourth and Ty Gibbs (No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota) fifth after leading 120 laps.

Ryan Blaney (No. 12 Team Penske Ford) led a race-high 202 laps but finished 33rd after contact from Hocevar while battling for second. Blaney fell to sixth in the standings, 52 points behind Larson. Logano climbed to third, 16 points back. 

Blaney and Hocevar exchanged good-old-fashioned-NASCAR-style punches on pit road after the race was over, with the 6'4" driver more effective than his 5'7" nemesis. No word yet on whether or not there will be any disciplinary action from NASCAR.

IMSA

Sheldon van der Linde and Dries Vanthoor (No. 24 BMW M Team WRT) earned WRT’s first IMSA victory after van der Linde passed Earl Bamber (No. 31 Cadillac Whelen) with 5½ minutes remaining in Sunday’s Tirerack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis. Bamber and Jack Aitken’s Cadillac finished second, ahead of the No. 6 Team Penske Porsche, No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac, and pole-sitting No. 60 Meyer-Shank Racing Acura. Aitken now leads the GTP championship by 147 points.  

The class winners were Christian Rasmussen and Nick Boulle (No. 18 Era Motorsport ORECA 07) in LMP2; Dennis Olsen and Ben Barker (No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3) in GTD PRO; and Patrick Gallagher and Robby Foley (No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO) in GTD. Rasmussen and Boulle won through aggressive fuel saving, while the GTD-winning BMW defeated the penalized No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG after that car was sent to the rear for a pre-race infraction.
